Congratulations Bellflower Lodge Moose Legion Committee
Congratulations to the Bellflower Lodge Moose Legion Committee for being the 2014-15 Moose Legion Committee of the Year for the jurisdiction. Criteria for this honor is based on Endowment contributions, membership production and attendance at quarterly Celebrations (men and women). Bellflower topped all three categories. On April 19th, during the visit of Supreme Governor Danny Albert, Bellflower was presented with a Certificate of Recognition and a Mooseheart NJROTC Military Ball banner signed by all the cadets.

Congratulations Ed Henry - New Pilgrim
It was an honor to celebrate the Pilgrim Ceremony, for Ed Henry. The ceremony was beautiful. The attendees dressed so nice and the food was wonderful. We as a lodge could not have honored Ed in such a marvelous way without everyone coming together, working long hours to make it a magical night. Mary Binkley handled the invitations, Ben Pendleton and Malinda Deniz were our mentors, Paula and Tony Cairo and Sara Angulo put together the stunning decorations, Jerri Jo Elliot and Jacque Noyes and Heather Griscom handled the seating and serving (a big Thank You for that). In the kitchen we had Cindy Mirabel, Desiree O’Dell, Kim Yeager, Mary Kelly, Linda Diebel and I, dishing food, running food and coordinating the volunteers. (Who came from the local Bellflower Volunteer Center). We hope to do more ventures with them in the future.

From the Desk of the Junior Graduate Regent
Dear Friends,

To begin with, I can't believe we are almost at the end of this year. We have accomplished so much and had fun doing it, but yet we have so much more we want to do by May 2013, when the new Board of Officers come in.

Everybody, and I mean everybody, has helped in one way or another. Think "Cooperation" that's what makes this Lodge, or any organization for that matter, strong and successful.

Just a reminder to all, everything done at the Lodge is volunteered, (except the bartenders) and believe me it is greatly appreciated by everyone. "Here" nobody is obligated to do anything. We accept whatever you can and often to do to help in any capacity you can choose to do.

On September 8th my husband Richard drove to Reno, NV to the State Conference. There I got my Green Cap on Sunday the 9th. It was a beautiful, well organized and impressive ceremony. From there we drove crosscountry to Chicago, IL (I've never seen so many cornfields in my life. Ha ha!). One of my main priorities was to visit Mooseheart.

It was one of those most unbelievable sights, enormous, beautiful and well kept. The Superintendent himself gave us a tour of the classrooms. To see what I saw is to believe. The superintendent himself was once a child at the school.

God Bless you,
Elizabeth DuFault

Sickness and Distress
Connie Jo Duffy is at home and doing better.

Joyce Snider is home and doing well, she was at the Lodge this past weekend.

George Le Faive was in the hospital for a brief stay, having problems breathing, but he's back at the Royal Wood Health Care Center.

I spoke with Dennis Freeman on October 15, 2012 at the Lodge and he stated that he's getting treatment at St. Jude for his cancer and doing well as expected and says hello to everyone of our members and co-workers.

Larry Phillips seems to be doing much better now. In fact he was at the Lodge for dinner.

We are so happy to see Billie Brinsfield back and working at the Lodge after a few stays in the hospital. She's happy to be back at work and full of smiles, we surely missed that beautiful smile.

Fraternally,
Eddie Henry

I would like to thank everyone who attended my Jeweling Ceremony. It was an overwhelming feeling having so many people there showing their kindness and support. I will do my utmost to perform the duties of the office.

Surf and Sand Council of Higher Degrees
Dear Brothers and Co-workers,

We were at the Mentone Beach Lodge for the end of our very successful year on Saturday, October 13th. My heart and hat is off to all of you for the fine work that all of you did for the Council this year. Please keep up the wonderful work for the new President and board for the coming year.

Congratulations to Ben Pendleton for being our new CNMA Council Coordinator and also for being installed as Deputy Supreme Governor for Southern California. What a busy guy he's going to be.

Ben said in Reno, come January there will be some new changes in the way the Council of the Year is chosen.

Thank you all for helping make our Council one of the greatest and thank you Roy and Ben for putting me here as President.

Southern California Moose Legion 6
Congratulations to all the members of the Southern California Moose Legion 6! We did it! We received the Fraternal Service Award in Tampa, FL. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It was the combined efforts of everyone that made this happen. I would like to add, that our the 19 Moose Legion jurisdictions in California/Nevada, only six received this honor.

Financially, we're doing okay - not great, but okay. We have met our financial obligations to Youth Awareness, the Mooseheart Senior Package, Moose Legion Association dues and the 2012-13 Moose Legion Annual Project. Plus, we've made a $250 donation to the 2012-13 International Moose Legion President's Project and we're on track to matching our donation to the Endowment Fund of last year. But there's stull much to do.

For membership, we're currently down two members from the beginning of the year of 218. In order for us to receive the Fraternal Service Award for the second straight year, we need to be at 219. It's so important that we all pay our dues on time and we elevate all those Brothers who qualify to the Moose Legion Degree of Service. Qualifications for the Moose Legion are now: 1) be an active Moose member for six months or 2) sign up a new member into the Fraternity.

We have some great campaigns out there for membership. Sign up one member and receive a "Heard of Moose" Moose Legion lapel pin. Sign up two members and receive a set of Moose Legionnaire coffee mugs. Once those two members have gone through a Celebration, you'll receive your next year's dues for free. Sign up and enroll three members and you'll receive a beautiful book celebrating "Mooseheart, 100 Years of Giving".

Please join us at our next Celebration at the Bellflower Moose Family Center in January 2013. There will be more details in the next "Echo" and posted here and on the Lodge's bulletin board.

Fraternally,
Ben Pendleton

Congratulations Ben Pendleton
Our own Ben Pendleton has been appointed to the position of Deputy Supreme Governor for Southern California for the 2012-13 year. He received his appointment at the International Convention in Tampa, Florida.

He was also one of five Shining Star nominees for Moose Legionnaire of the Year. Unfortunately he didn’t win the top honor this year at the Moose International Convention in Tampa, Florida, but just to be chosen is an honor all in itself.

Mark Klein Becomes International Moose Legion President
On behalf of all the members of Southern California Moose Legion 6, the Board of Directors wishes to extend its congratulations to Pilgrim Brother Mark Klein for being elected to the position of International Moose Legion President. Mark has been a longtime friend and supporter of our jurisdiction. It was with his strong encouragement and belief in us that kept us going when we were on the verge of being merged with another jurisdiction. Congratulations Mark! We know you will do a great job.

Words of Wisdom from Eddie Henry
Last year, the Lodge made the Plus One quota and also the 5 Star Award. Nice going, in fact, give yourselves a big pat on the back. Its awards like these that can only make our Lodge grow, get stronger and solvent.

The Lodge is starting the New Year Quota off a little slow for New Members. I would like to try and get each LOOM member to get at least one new member or re-enrollee this year. I want to thank each and every one in advance for trying to help make THIS YEARS QUOTA.

Our Lodge is doing very well in the Awards Department this year. From Moose International, we received the Youth Awareness Award and Joe Lucier was awarded the Lodge Moose of the Year.

On a very sad note; I need to announce the demise of two of our Brothers: Roy F. Brown and Hoyt Lundin.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the families as they go through these very trying times. They will truly be missed.

Southern California Moose Legion 6

On behalf of all Moose Legionnaires of Southern California Moose Legion 6, the Board of Directors would like to express their condolences to Jan Dobbs and the entire Ochotorena Family for their loss of Greg “Ocho” Ochotorena. Brother Ocho was serving on our Board as Chaplain until his passing. He will be truly missed by us all.

On Saturday, April 7th at 3:00 p.m., Southern California Moose Legion 6 will be having a Moose Legion general membership meeting. At 4:00 p.m., we’ll be Conferring the Moose Legion Degree of Service on newly elected Moose members. Following that, we’ll be having the Installation of the New Board of Directors. District President Eddie Henry

People put forth their greatest efforts when they are carrying out ideas that they claim as their own. One of the best ways to get them to adopt a plan with enthusiasm is to give them credit for originating it. By this strategy, whether we are dealing with our Officers, Brothers of the Lodge or Co-workers, we uphold the other person’s ego and elicit cooperation and enthusiasm.

Fraternally,
Eddie Henry

Thoughts of the Governor Pro-Temp
Brothers and Sisters of the Bellflower Moose, I bid you Greetings.

On January 29th, a wonderful and great man “Ocho” left us. I am fully confident that he has moved on to serve his God, in much the same way he has on this planet.

May his family, Jan and all the members of the Moose carry on his legacy during the remainder of his term. “May he rest in Peace.”

It’s been a busy month and then some. I would like to give my sincere thanks to all of our volunteers for the success of the events.

We had a wonderful gathering for the Around the World Dinner and the Annual Chili Cook-off. I am looking forward to next year’s already.

After a multi-year hiatus, we were able to put on The Golden Ball Ceremony for the Moose Legion Endowment Fund. Kudos to all the participants. Let’s keep the ball rolling (oh boy).

Thanks to all that were able to attend the Super Bowl Bash. The food was wonderful and everybody had a great time. Thank you again Billie, Mary and Glen.

And last but not least, Rueben and his crew for painting the kitchen.

God Bless All.

Fraternally,
Robert C Doty
Governor Pro-Temp

Don't Miss Out
Mark April 5, 2012 on your calendar and plan on being at the WOTM meeting that night. It begins at 6:00 p.m. This is our Health Awareness month and we have planned a speaker on that evening from the Bellflower Y.M.C.A.

Her name is Mary Jane. She will be talking to us about the importance of exercise and what we need to do to keep ourselves in good physical condition. She is the director at the Y and will also tell us what programs are available to us.

It is an open meeting so bring your men, neighbors and anyone you would like to invite. They are more than welcome.

We are in a new year and what a better way to start it out. Do something good for yourself this year.

Come to the meeting and listen to Mary Jane. You will be glad you did. Afterwards, we will be having something to eat.

Southern California Moose Legion 6
Southern California Moose Legion #6 wanted to Create Some Interest. So in November, we had a Prime Rib Dinner and Casino Night at the Downey Moose Family Center, a Pala Casino Bus Trip leaving/returning from the Bellflower Moose Family Center and a Mini-Conferral at the Rosemead Moose Family Center.
In December, the monthly directors meeting will be at Bellflower on the 18th.
On Saturday, January 7, 2012 there is a Moose Legion Educational Conference (class) at the Downey Moose Family Center. The class starts at 8:00 am and the cost is $20.00. All Moose Legionnaires desiring to be on the Board of Directors need to attend, but all others are encouraged to attend to have a better understanding of the Moose Legion operation.
On January 8th there is a Conferral scheduled at the El Monte Family Moose Center starting at 2:00 pm. January 15th is the date of the Moose Legion Board of Directors meeting following District Social. January 22nd is the date of the Shuffleboard Tournament at the Downey Moose Family Center starting at 2:00 pm. An International Dinner and Golden Ball Ceremony will be held at the Bellflower Moose Family Center on January 29th starting at 3:00 pm. Bring your favorite dish to share and join in the festivities.
February is the start of the 2nd Annual Going Green Campaign. Save those plastic bottles and aluminum cans for the fundraiser. I heard rumors of a steak dinner -details to follow. Our Second Annual Poker Run will be held on February 26th, ending at the Pomona Moose Family Center this year. Gary will have food available.
Also in February of 2012, there will be nominations for Moose Legion Board of Directors and April 7th is the date to install the new officers. Take the time to get involved and make a difference.
This has been a very good year for Moose Legion #6. The Board of Directors has had several fundraising events with a lot of Moose Members in attendance. Our Moose Legion financial obligations have been met and we are donating additional funds to the Moose Charities supported by the Moose Legion. This year, the International Moose Legion is raising $30,000.00 for the Youth Awareness Congress Scholarships, is paying for the purchase of two passenger vans and 21 computers and is raising $15,000 for new lawn mowers for Camp Ross in support of the Presidents project. Southern California Moose Legion #6 is contributing to each of these charities. Moose Legion #6 also supported the October Cradle Fund project, raising money for the Endowment Fund.
Moose Legion #6 continues to reach out to the Women of the Moose to attend the conferrals and fundraisers and to have fun and enjoy the time spent with us. In return Moose Legion #6 wants to help the Chapters, so invite us to your events.

Fraternally yours,
Russell Hanson, President SCML#6

My Daddy Was A Moose
Dad and Mom aren't here today,
I was told they are living in Heaven.
I remember the day they went away,
It was on the day I was seven.

Since then, I've been living at Mooseheart,
with other little girls and boys.
Going to school and getting a new start,
And sharing in some of youth's joys.

My days and nights are free from care,
My future is well taken care of.
I don't have to acratch for something to wear,
And I share an abundance of love.

I could have been an orphaned stray,
And left to live on the loose.
Now, each night by my bed I pray,
Thank God my daddy was a Moose.
